St. Pierre, Martinique

This is our first visit to Martinique and Seabourn anchored off of St. Pierre and we tendered to shore. St. Pierre was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Pelee in 1902 killing some 28,000 people in a matter of two minutes from the scorching hot ash. St. Pierre was one of the busiest commercial ports in the Caribbean at the time and it is believed that almost 400 ships that were in the harbor at the time were also lost. There is a nice museum that captures some of the story. The town has been partially rebuilt but remains quite small. This was also the beginning of a rainy period for us so here come the rainbow pictures!
